jogakbo cabinet

HERMÈS PETIT H (2025)

Inspired by the Korean jogakbo patchwork technique, the piece is crafted entirely from offcuts—silk, cotton, mesh, and muslin—each material thoughtfully chosen at the Pantin workshop for its color and composition.

Each compartment of the cabinet opens not with a drawer, but with a lift-up curtain, giving the object a sense of lightness and movement. A soft leather leg adds playfulness and character to the large-scale piece.

Hermès petit h is a team driven by encounters—between people, between materials, and between savoir-faire—always moving toward boundless creation. Together with the petit h team, we reinterpreted the jogakbo spirit and embroidered it into the structure of the cabinet.

This collaboration offered a rare and meaningful shift from the usual design process. Instead of beginning with an idea, we began with unused materials—touching, combining, and discovering new forms and functions directly through the hands of artisans. It was a unique experience of letting materials lead the way.

We were deeply inspired by the petit h philosophy: “Nothing is discarded; everything is reborn through creation.” Their respect for materials, for craftsmanship, and for the origins of objects left a lasting impression on us.

The cabinet was presented at Hermès petit h Stopover Seoul 2025: “Memories shaped by hand”, with scenography by art director Ryu Seong-hie—a tribute to the beauty of Korean craft and the passage of time. It was an honor to be part of her narrative, which invites us to restore our fading memories of handmade crafts and to remember the beauty born from the hands.
